SUMMARY:Polypropylene: Commodity Resin\, I Don't Think So
DESCRIPTION:Polypropylene is often referred to as a “commodity resin”\, however\, is this really the case? \nPolypropylene is a versatile thermoplastic that can be processed through a variety of processing techniques. It is utilized in a wide range of applications\, including packaging\, automotive\, infrastructure\, appliances\, healthcare\, and electrical. It’s wide use is based upon several key strengths\, including: \n\nGood chemical resistance\nGood electrical insulation properties\nFlexural strength and modulus\nRelatively low coefficient of friction\nReadily available and relatively inexpensive\n\nThe implication of the interchangeability of polypropylene resins does a disservice to the complexity of this material and the plastic industry in general. The properties of polypropylene are highly dependent on molecular weight and molecular weight distribution\, crystallinity\, type and proportion of comonomer\, and tacticity. \nHopefully\, after the webinar\, attendees will \n\nGain an understanding of the general properties of polypropylene.\nHave more insight into how the molecular structure of polypropylene determines its performance properties.\nAppreciate the diversity of polypropylene.

SUMMARY:Design For...Webinar Series: DOE Applied to Secondary Operations for Plastic Parts
DESCRIPTION:Design of Experiments (DOE) has long been used with injection molding and extrusions. DOE is a statistically based methodology for developing empirical equations. The test structure and interpretation is highly effective and efficient. A less recognized DOE application area is for plastic part secondary operations. This can include plasma treatment\, ultrasonic welding and bonding. We will discuss the basics about DOE and explore a few common case studies applications\, to understand the power of DOE for manufacturing processes. \nREGISTER HERE\nPresenter: Perry Parendo\, President\, Perry’s Solutions\, LLC \nBio: Perry began developing and seeing results from his Design Of Experiments (DOE) techniques at the General Motors Research Labs in 1986. His unique insight into DOE has saved time and money while solving complex problems during product and process development. This paved the way for him to lead multi-million-dollar New Product Development (NPD) projects with international teams. He is a recognized thought leader and shares his practical insights with international audiences. \nParendo founded Perry’s Solutions\, LLC in 2006 to help organizations with critical product development activities. He has consulted in a wide range of industries such as consumer products\, biomedical products and heavy equipment. He is currently a regular columnist for Design News. He received his Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Minnesota.
